Chronicle Supposing Books The Blood Countess (Pandora English #1)

Pandora English is no ordinary small town orphan. When she's invited to live with her mysterious Great-Aunt Celia in New York City, she seizes the opportunity to escape her stifling hometown break from her tragic past and make it as a writer. Things, however, are not what she is expecting. For starters, her great-aunt's gothic mansion is in a mist-wreathed Manhattan suburb that doesn't appear on maps. And then there's Celia herself - a former designer to the stars of Hollywood's Golden Age - who is elegant, unnaturally young and always wearing a veil. Pandora lands a job at a fashion magazine and her first assignment is covering the A-list launch of the latest miracle cream, BloodofYouth. But something is not right about the product, nor Athanasia, the drop-dead beautiful face of the brand. It seems there may be a secret ingredient in BloodofYouth, a secret worth killing for...

Crit Based On Books The Blood Countess (Pandora English #1)
You know what? I really enjoyed The Blood Countess by Tara Moss. It wasnt super-deep (its about fashion and magazines in New York), and it wasnt brooding and angst-ridden. It was fun, entertaining and amusing. The main character, Pandora, comes to New York from some tiny hicksville town, to stay with her great aunt. She was desperate to get away from said small town partly because of the hicks and partly because its her dream to be a writer and work at a New York magazine. Back home, where she

Ultimately I found Blood Countess to be a disappointing read. A large part of that was to do with expectations not being met. I went into reading this book blind, I haven't read any of Tara Moss' other work but like her I have an appreciation for weird tales, and gothic horror. After reading the book blurb I was expecting Gothic horror in a modern setting and some subtle digs against the fashion industry. What I got was well...I am not sure, it felt like pilot episode for a Buffy clone. It's

I read this ages ago but I can't remember when exactly. I enjoyed it enough but remember thinking it was a bit weird. It obviously wasn't that memorable but if I read it now I think I'd probably less into it just because my tastes have changed. I'm pretty sure it was fairly new when I read it so I don't think any of the sequels were out yet.

Re-read because I finally found the other books in the series and the author managed to finally get the latest one published! Still a fun read. I love great aunt Celia, the socialite that still speaks as though she's in the 1940s.I started this series backwards, I read number three a couple of years ago. I really like this series, its gritty and has got an accomplished Gothic feel to it. Pandora English is no ordinary girl, she sees the world as it really is.I just read that the author has been

A perfect cruise read. Simple, junky in a good way and easy to read. I enjoyed it. Finished it by the pool.

The Blood Countess is a fairytale. Orphan girl grows up different in a small town. Great-aunt invites her to the big city. Great-aunt transforms her life. Girl has to discover her power (linked to discovering her identity) and use it. There are villains to defeat. What gives this story life beyond the fairytale framework is the confident yet vulnerable voice of the heroine and the fabulous use of New York as the setting. New York is perfect for fairytales. Two handsome princes was a nice toucheach

I was blown away by this book's mediocrity. A shame, I had such high hopes given I have read every one of Tara's previous books and loved them.It made me feel slightly queasy quite a bit of the time. I guessed about the blood ingredient in the 1st few pages. I also felt like I was in an Addams Family twilight zone with some of the names she chose. I didn't identify with the heroine and the book was a disappointment in lots of ways.Sorry Tara, you can't win 'em all.
