This is a slow book to get in too, but this just the out line of the story of how a man gets caught up in a mutiny of non british solders. The last third will give other better known authors a run for there money but well done

Many thanks to Joe Scicluna for sending me an ecopy of Ricasoli Soldier for review. I understand tha tMs Scicluna's forst two books were translations from French of accounts of conditions in Malta as the nineteenth century approached. This book is written as a novel, but is based on the little known [to me, at least] events surrounding the mutiny within the Froberg Regiment, based at Valetta in the early days of British Rule following the rebellion that saw the French leave the island. Whilst

Ricasoli Soldier is set in the early 1800s on the Mediterranean island of Malta. It follows the story of a young man called Leo who is starting out in the British Army as a soldier. Initially there was quite a bit of detail on the history of the area and the army at that time. However as I carried on with the book, it turned into a brilliant story about life in Malta for a soldier in the British Army as well as love and friendship. The author was very good at interweaving fact with fiction and

Born and raised on the island of Malta, Joe Scicluna has lived most of his life in the southeast of France, in the town of Grenoble nestled in the Alps. He draws a sense of balance from the stark contrast between this mountainous region and the sunbaked Mediterranean island which he still calls home. "As I get older, the more passionate I am becoming about the culture and the heritage of theGot hooked reading this book, loved the back ground history which was very factual as well as the storyline !!! One of those rare books that keep you turning the pages and wont put the book down !!

Really enjoyed this book and just had to read it a couple of times, as the intertwined romantic plot with the actual military history of Malta was quite gripping and masterfully written. Very good novel but do not read it at nighttime, or you will remain up all night trying to finish it.

Malta - it's an island filled with both romance and mystery. Situated in the Mediterranean Sea, not far geographically from Sicily and Corsica, but culturally a world away, this island holds plenty of appeal for readers everywhere. In this first novel from native Maltese author Joe Scicluna, "Ricasoli Soldier" is the swashbuckling story of a young Sicilian man named Leonardo who joined the British Army in Malta in order to defeat Napolean's French army in the first decade of the 19th century.
