Interpretation Supposing Books Monsters
A blackly comic tale about two children you would never want to meet.Set in the Cornish town of Fowey, all is not as idyllic as the beautiful seaside town might seem. The body of a young woman is discovered in the nets of a fishing boat. It is established that the woman was murdered. Most are shocked and horrified. But there is somebody who is not - a twelve-year-old girl. She is delighted; she loves murders. Soon she is questioning the inhabitants of the town in her own personal investigation. But it is a bit boring on her own. Then Miles Giffard, a similarly odd twelve-year-old boy, arrives in Fowey with his mother, and they start investigating together. Oh, and also playing games that re-enact the murders. Just for fun, you understand...
A book about two twelve-year-olds that is definitely not for kids.

Written like a children's book, looks like a children's book, definitely not a children's book.I didnt know what to expect from Monsters when I started it. Ive had it on my review pile for a while.I loved the setting of Fowey. I imagined the quintessential seaside town with the little independent boutique shops and local museums. I loved the idea of Mr Queens sweetshop, I could feel my poor teeth rotting at the thought of it! But this little unassuming coastal town is packed with rather interesting characters from the mayor down to the local business people and beyond. The main character
I finished this a few days ago and still can't decide what I think about it. If you don't like disturbing matter, steer clear - it'd set off a minefield of trigger warnings.Basically our narrator, neglected by her criminally selfish and now deceased parents, has grown up quite the sociopath. The only change in her routine is going to stay with her wispy aunt and vile uncle every summer. And then she meets Miles.A few readers have commented on the Du Maurier echoes - a nameless narrator, the
I enjoyed the first of Fennell's Shiverton Hall series though found the second one a little dragging in places, but nonetheless was excited to read something aimed at a slightly older audience. I'd heard rave reviews for Monsters and was itching to pick it up. However, I found it really difficult to get into. Despite being aimed at an older audience, the writing style and tone - especially in the first two chapters - is very basic, perhaps even more so than Shiverton. The narrator is a 12/13
YES. Bloody marvellous. I sort of ended up reading this book by accident and I am so glad I did because it was bloody wonderful.Monsters by Emerald Fennell was made available to everyone on Hot Key Books blogger mailing list when they joined NetGalley recently. I hadnt heard of it before and so I didnt really have any plans to read it anytime soon but after finishing Night Film by Marisha Pessl (which was fantastic, but quite a serious book) I was in the mood for something a bit lighter so I
I just can't decide! I finished it super quick and there's no doubt the plot and the descriptions of Fowey are brilliant. However, is it intentionally written like a YA book - does that add to the undoubted blackness of the humour? Or is the writer just better at YA fiction and this foray just doesn't quite work. Love the cover! Laughed a lot.
You can see the full review at Chocolate Chunky Munkie blogMy, what a dark and intriguing book this was. Loved the narration through the eyes of the girl who is 12 year old. It had the most darkly comical moments, I just had to finish this to see where the story was going to end, and find out who had committed these murders. I was not disappointed!I'm not going to delve into the plot too much as I just don't want to spoil anything about this gem of a book. It makes you forget just how old these
