My rating: 3.5. I can't believe I found this volume at Goodwill just as I was starting my Year of Miss Jane Marple rereads! I know I have read all of these short stories before, but having them all in one volume is great! I see the development of Miss Marple's character and acceptance change over the course of these stories....... as her reputation grows, so does her self esteem and so does the respect which others have for her abilities. These are great little snippets into the mind of Miss
I own this, because Agatha Christie and Miss Marple, and it is always a good read when I'm sick and I just want to read something comfortable and familiar that I enjoy. It's got the old familiar Tuesday Club mysteries, and some more obscure ones that bear an unfortunately strong resemblance to some of the novels. I can never go wrong with Miss Marple.

I love this collection. I could read it every week! I'm particularly fond of the first set, generally known as the Tuesday Club Murders or Thirteen Problems. These short stories are a great introduction to Miss Marple and the way in which she goes about solving crimes (the well-known village parallel). The writing is particularly evocative and you can clearly picture a white-haired woman carefully counting stitches in the corner, listening to everything being said and quietly solving the mystery
First: a note. This anthology has all of the Ms. Marple stories in it, so it already has the entire content of The Thirteen Problems (or The Tuesday Club Murders). So yes, if you have a copy of this, you no longer need to acquire the latter.Regarding the book - whew! It was a highly compulsive read. I was thinking of just tasting a story or two before going to bed but ended up devouring the entire thing in two nights. That's how addictive these bonbons are.The first two-thirds of the book has
I read The Thirteen Problems looong ago, and now am reviewing these short stories again to see how I feel. Christie is pretty discriminative, you know. Working class people can be the one who implements the crime, but not the one who plans it through. Likewise, they are never the main victim, even though they might get killed in secondary murders. And needless to say, the main characters--if not most characters--are white. Pretty sexist, too, even in Miss Marple stories. They are brain games.
At a gathering everyone is encouraged to tell a story of a previously unsolvable mystery to see if anyone could solve the puzzle. Predictably, in each story, no one else has a clue as to who or how the crime was committed other than Jane Marple. People who like to figure out puzzles would enjoy these shorts. I had a library copy copy that I couldn't renew, so I had to send it back unfinished. Well, it's been 2 years & I still haven't gone back to take it out again, to finish it. Time to
