This is the first book I have read by Sinèad Moriarty, but it won't be my last. I found myself laughing out loud on a number of occasions.
Loved it!!! Everything about the books was good. Sensitive, humorous, great story about a conservative Irish family dealing with Niamh and her new lover Pierre - a man that was everything they did not wish for in a son-in-law. The honesty and wit was refreshing. I will for sure find more of her books to read. This first encounter was a great one. We all will recognize our own families and histories in it.
Sinead Moriartys latest novel, Whose Life Is It Anyway, shies away from regular chick lit and tackles the story of an inter-racial relationship and how it affects an Irish stuck-in-their-ways family.Niamh meets Pierre in a cafe and they fall in love. The trouble is: not only is Pierre not Irish, hes also black which to Niamhs family is the kiss of death as far as him being a potential husband goes. Can Niamh and Pierre persuade Niamhs family that they can and will stay together?I really enjoyed
Being in an interracial relationship this book hit close to home, even though my family didn't really have issues with my partner one of my best friends did. This is also the first time reading a romance where i felt like the characters were my partner and I. It made me really enjoy it more. The banter between Pierre and Niamh is amazing. The love of both families is wonderful as well. I recommend this book if you are someone who loves to read well written love stories. I also recommend this
I stayed up late just to finish this novel despite having 2 term papers due this week simply because the novel is JUST. THAT. GOOD! Moriarty's wit was hysterical; I couldn't stop laughing at certain bits in the story! That aside, the story revolves around Pierre and Niamh - the former a black and the latter a white. Hmmmmmmmmm, while I did enjoy reading about their interactions, however, as what another reviewer had commented, do not take this novel as an accurate account of an inter-racial
Again another fabulous read this time dealing with the struggles of an Irish girl, from a staunch Catholic and traditional family living in London, when she meets and falls in love with a coloured, french speaking professor. Witty and brilliant with great one liners throughout!

I think this story was quite close to my heart, as it deals with the issue of a mixed race relationship (and I detest that phrase really, I mean, we're all from the human race are we not!) The central characters are Niamh, bought up in England, but with parents who are proud to celebrate their Irishness at every turn (which makes for some fun reading), and Pierre, the man Niamh has fallen in love with, who couldn't be less Irish if he tried, as he happens to to be French Carribean and black. TheThis is the first book I have read by Sinèad Moriarty, but it won't be my last. I found myself laughing out loud on a number of occasions.
